Building Independence

Horizon High School takes a functional approach to learning, tailoring our transdisciplinary, collaborative approach to teaching and delivering therapy services to meet the unique needs and abilities of each individual student. We believe that all activities of daily living – including everything from changing and toileting to feeding and peer interaction- are opportunities for students to learn and grow.

We utilize the Common Core Standards in conjunction with specialized curriculum in the areas of Language Arts, Math and Science. Educational technology- including adapted computers, interactive whiteboards, and iPads – is used in creating and implementing lessons. We offer a wide range of opportunities for students of all abilities – from job training and placement to community integration activities – to prepare all of our students for a successful transition to adulthood.

Our job training and placement program offers Certified Employment Specialists working with more than a dozen corporate partners to create work experiences for students.

An entrepreneurs component that allows students to make and sell their own furniture, greeting cards, t-shirts and other products. In-house job training that includes a school store run entirely by students.
