Aquatic Therapy Polyclinic for Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Disabilities & the Medically Fragile Patient
This 16 hour in-service is packed into 2 days and is good for 19.0 CCUs throught the Federated State Boards of Physical Therapy). It is designed to demonstrate the advanced skills necessary to bring aquatics to the child, adolescent and adult with cerebral palsy, developmental delay, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, muscular dystrophy or other medically fragile or profoundly involved conditions. Includes findings from published literature to help convince skittish medical personnel (and parents) of the benefits of aquatics. Shows therapists the “nuts and bolts” of teaching techniques to parents and caregivers.Offers insight into “where to go next” for the therapist who has tried everything he or she knows and has run out of ideas. Provides tips on working with the medically fragile infants, children and adults with medical devices (ventilator tubes, IVs, g-tubes, and oxygen) in and around water. Includes information on reimbursement for aquatic therapy, both at the infant, child and adult level. This course is free of charge to all CPNJ Staff. Practical Strategies for Treating Complex Feeding Disorders: Treating the Whole Child
Course Description Clinicians will be taught the necessary components of a comprehensive evaluation of feeding problems including those encountered by children with oral motor dysfunction, oral motor inexperience, oral hypersensitivity, behavioral rigidity and anxiety as seen in children with cardiac issues, prematurity, ASD, syndromes, SPD. Focus will be on a holistic treatment approach for challenging feeding disorders that are characteristically seen with tube dependency, oral inexperience, severe oral hypersensitivity, rigid eating patterns, and difficulty transitioning to table foods. Get Ready to Learn: Yoga Therapy in the Classroom
This dynamic 2 day program offers the school based practitioner a clinically researched Yoga curriculum utilizing a range of developmentally graded yoga sequences which align with RTI and PBIS. Used throughout the United States and England since 2008, this popular preparatory yoga curriculum, addressing learning and behavior issues across ages (preschool-high school), stages and levels of ability. This program has been shown to positively impact sensory processing, self regulation attention, communication, motor planning and performance. Get Ready to Learn (“GTRL”) is designed for implementation and adaption across the range of classroom challenges, from minimal to severe. Challenges addressed include students with mild to severe physical limitations, autistic spectrum disorders, developmental, learning disabilities and attention and emotional/regulatory issues. Chosen as a PBS “Innovations in Education” program, this program has been highly acclaimed by participating teachers, therapists and administrators. Program Includes: •Training in the use of a series of developmentally sequenced floor yoga routines as well as a series of seated routines with adaptations for specific challenges, use of a series of 5 “GRTL” Classroom Breaks. •Reproducible manual sections, including Inservice handout and curriculum for class room staff, data collection and observation tools.
