On April 29th Horizon School held it’s annual Cupcake Wars! Horizon School classes each made their own cupcake display. Cupcake wars is part of our Grandparents Day event, where Horizon students get a visit from their Grandparents and volunteer “Grandfriends”. The visitors also serve as judges who who score the competitors on taste, creativity and presentation. Third place was Miss Suriya’s, “Cotton Candy Land”. Second place was for Miss Jennifer’s and Miss Brittany’s preschool classes, “Down in the Bubbly Blue”. The first place entry was Miss Sandy’s, “Dragon”. On April 23, 2014, 29 Horizon High School students participated in the Special Olympics event held in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, NJ. The students participated in the track and field event and softball toss. The adaptive physical education teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapist have practiced with the students throughout the year in preparation for the event. There are many benefits for our students who participate in Special Olympics event which include physical fitness, increased coordination, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, knowledge of rules and strategy , increased self-esteem, self-confidence, pride, a chance to socialize, and teamwork. Congratulations to all the athletes on your hard work and dedication with this Special Olympics event!
