On April 23, 2014, 29 Horizon High School students participated in the Special Olympics event held in Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, NJ. The students participated in the track and field event and softball toss. The adaptive physical education teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapist have practiced with the students throughout the year in preparation for the event. There are many benefits for our students who participate in Special Olympics event which include physical fitness, increased coordination, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, knowledge of rules and strategy , increased self-esteem, self-confidence, pride, a chance to socialize, and teamwork. Congratulations to all the athletes on your hard work and dedication with this Special Olympics event!
On Saturday, May 3rd, over 300 runners participated in Horizon High School’s 4th annual Expand Your Horizons 5k and 1-mile fun run at Brookdale park in Bloomfield, NJ.
