Last Friday, students and their families, as well as staff and volunteers, gathered for Horizon Elementary School’s annual Wheelin’ – N’ – Walkin’ Challenge. Everyone walked a course in front of the school and were cheered on by our friends from Jefferson Elementary School in South Orange and Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale. The event was the culmination of the school’s year-long fundraising effort – the school’s annual fund raised a total of more than $68,000! We would like to thank our top fundraisers – the Gittleman Family (over $18,000) and the Halkyard Family (over $11,000) as well as the members of the event committee: Gina Wagner, Meenu Suneja, Nadine Gray, Hetty Kintiroglou, and Tami Pantiliano. Special thanks to all Horizon Elementary staff, volunteers, friends and family members for making this walk possible.
Last week, CPNJ’s Horizon Elementary School students traveled to Hillside Elementary School in Livingston. Students from both schools worked together to color in a 30×30 piece, inspired by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. In the past each student was given an individual piece to work on – to be placed together to form a larger piece. This year was a bit different as students worked simultaneously to complete the project. Each student in attendance contributed to the construction of the masterpiece. After the craft was complete, the students mingled during an extended lunch period before returning to business as usual. Thanks again to our friends at Hillside Elementary School for another amazing day!
The art project is part of the Hillside-Horizon Helping Hands program, which creates opportunities for special needs students to interact with their non-disabled peers.
