Virtual Reality at Pillar Elementary School

Pillar Elementary School recently added virtual reality to its ever-expanding inventory of specialized educational/therapeutic technology. The array of new equipment can be used by both therapists and teachers in unique ways.#VReducation #virtualreality #virtualrealityeducation(The Oculus Go is an interactive virtual reality system that will primarily be used by the therapists. It utilizes a wide range of apps, each of which provide a different experience for the student. The apps used will target fine motor skills, body awareness, cognition, and motor planning. Due to the interactive nature of the experiences available within the Oculus system, students can also practice situations to improve their social skills. A spherical camera will also allow staff to obtain video of sites students will visit, allowing them to adjust to a new environment through virtual reality before seeing it in person.)

Furry friends from Creature Comfort Pet Therapy came to Pillar Elementary School last Thursday to share in a fun and playful morning with our students. Pet therapy builds on the pre-existing human-animal bond. Interacting with a friendly pet has proven to help many physical and mental issues. Pillar Schools regularly utilizes pet therapy as a means to help our students to better reduce stress and improve their overall psychological state.
