ABC Studio is a volunteer-led arts and crafts program created to reinforce letter recognition and sound-symbol correspondence for the Horizon School primary classes. Volunteers assist young students to create a piece of art that corresponds with the letter-of-the-week. All artwork is then saved for the end of the year when each child will publish their own alphabet book to bring home.
Volunteers are primarily college students and recent college graduates. Schedule: Thursdays, 12:00pm-1:45pm.
This program aims to bring stories to life for students. Volunteers tell stories while presenting interactive ‘props’ that allow the students with disabilities to see, hear, touch and smell the story. Each story page that the storyteller presents includes some sort of sensory stimulation – the smell of a pine tree, the feel of a warm blanket, the sound of a ringing alarm clock. Stories are short, interactive and focused on feelings and sensations. Training is provided and each volunteer participates in the program once or twice per month. Schedule: Fridays, 11:30am-2:30pm.

We have helped hundreds of young adults with their mitzvah projects. We have wonderful opportunities to create lasting memories for our students with multiple disabilities and for the volunteers helping to impact their lives.
